The Rise of the 1.5-Seater: The Chair You Can Actually Live In
Some furniture pieces fit neatly into categories. A sofa seats multiple people. A chair seats one.
And then there's the 1.5-seater — the piece that lives comfortably in between.
Larger than a chair but more compact than a loveseat, the 1.5-seater has quietly become one of the most versatile seating options in modern interiors. It's spacious enough to stretch out in, yet compact enough to fit where a full sofa cannot. In many ways, it's the perfect seat for modern living.
More Room for You
Traditional armchairs are designed for one person. A 1.5-seater is designed for comfort.
The extra width allows you to curl up with a book, sit cross-legged, or share the seat with a child or pet. It creates a relaxed, lounge-like experience without requiring the footprint of a larger sofa.
It's a chair that invites you to stay awhile.
Perfect for Today's Homes
As homes become more intentional, furniture is expected to do more.
The 1.5-seater works beautifully in spaces where a loveseat may feel too large and a standard chair may feel too small:
Reading corners
Bedrooms
Home offices
Apartments
Family rooms
Open-concept living spaces
It provides generous comfort without overwhelming the room.
The Ultimate Reading Chair
If there is one place where a 1.5-seater truly shines, it's the reading nook.
With enough room to change positions, add a throw blanket, or simply settle in comfortably, it creates a personal retreat within the home.
Paired with a floor lamp and side table, it becomes the kind of spot you'll naturally gravitate toward at the end of the day.
Ideal for Families and Pet Owners
One of the reasons homeowners love 1.5-seaters is their flexibility.
A child can join you for story time. A dog can curl up beside you. A cat can claim its favorite corner while still leaving room for you.
It offers the comfort of shared seating without requiring a full-size sofa.
A Designer Favorite
Interior designers often use 1.5-seaters to soften a room.
They can anchor a corner, balance a larger sofa, or create a secondary seating area that feels more relaxed than a formal chair.
Their scale feels approachable, making a room appear inviting rather than overly structured.
Our Favorite 1.5-Seater Styles
Among our collection, the Dakota and Aspen 1.5-seaters offer two distinct approaches.
The Dakota provides a slightly more substantial, lounge-friendly feel, while the Aspen offers a cleaner, more compact silhouette that works beautifully in smaller spaces.
Both deliver the comfort that makes the 1.5-seater such a beloved choice.
The Sweet Spot of Seating
Not every room needs a sofa.
Not every corner needs a chair.
Sometimes, the perfect solution lives somewhere in between.
The 1.5-seater offers comfort, versatility, and just the right amount of space—making it one of the most practical and enjoyable pieces you can bring into your home.
